HMB

HMB is short for the chemical name beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate, which is a derivative of the branch chain amino acid leucine. HMB is produced naturally within the human body, but supplemental HMB offers excellent benefits in the muscle building industry. While most supplements provide muscle mass gains through an increase in protein synthesis, HMB works by acting as an anti-catabolic agent, reducing the amount of muscle protein breakdown brought on by intense physical training.

While HMB on its own is effective for reducing muscle breakdown, studies have shown that combining HMB with other supplements such as creatine provides extraordinary results.

There is no recommended daily dose for HMB, though 3 to 5 grams have shown great results.
