Casein proteins are commonly used in meal replacement powders, due to their slow digestion rate which mimics that of a whole food meal. This slow digestion rate provides a longer, steadier supply of amino acids to the muscles, making it an ideal source of nutrition before bed due to the “fasting” period while you are asleep.
