Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto is a plant that is native to the Southeastern United States, and was a staple food of the Native American tribes of that area. Men used the berries to aid in a variety of functions such as for the treatment of urinary tract infections, boosting libido and even to increase sperm production.

Today, saw palmetto is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, due to the presence of plant-based chemicals that are effective for treating BPH. In animal studies, saw palmetto has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells, which indicates that it may be an effective treatment for prostate cancer.

There is no recommended daily dosage for saw palmetto, though a typical dose for BPH is 160mg twice per day.
